RUN FOR D103 5K
Come be part of the Run for D103! District 103 PTO, Learning Fund Foundation and D103 Music Boosters are teaming up to bring the 6th annual event to our community on Saturday, May 20, 8:00 a.m. at Daniel Wright. Proceeds from this event will help outfit the new and renovated instructional spaces in our schools this coming fall. By supporting Run for D103, you will make it possible to bring 21st Century learning tools to our classrooms including state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment, STEM technology and music room updates.
The 5K course is sanctioned and certified by the United State Association of Track and Field (USATF). Participants will receive a t‐shirt and post race refreshments. Awards will also be handed out for the top three finishers in various age groups. Last year the event hosted approximately 780 runners/walkers. BACK TO SCHOOL - FREE EVENT - PHYSICS IS FUN MOBILE MUSEUM
Come kick off the school year with some free educational fun at the District 103 Learning Fund Foundation's annual family event - Physics is Fun Mobile Museum. The Daniel Wright gym will be transformed into a hands-on science center with various workstations, each representing a unique and exciting hands-on learning situation. There will be an opening science assembly, followed by physical science experiments dealing with magnets, inertia, weights, levers, fulcrums, scales, and water displacement. It will be a memorable experience for both children and adults!

"Congratulations to our DW students who participated at the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering competition held at Stevenson High School on Saturday. Our 7th grade team placed second in collaboration and third overall. Students on the 8th grade team won first place in collaboration and first place overall."

SCIENCE BOWL TEAM CAPTURES REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Science Bowl Team from Daniel Wright Junior High School competed with 13 other middle school teams and captured the championship at the Regional Science Bowl held at Argonne National Laboratory. As the winner of the academic regional competition, the team from Daniel Wright Junior High School advances to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. from April 24-28, 2014. The National Science Bowl includes both an academic competition as well as an electric car race and design competition. This is the third time in four years (and fourth time in nine years) a team from Daniel Wright will be part of the National Science Bowl events.

MAD ABOUT SCIENCE FAMILY EVENT
Thanks to everyone who attended the LFF FREE Family Science Event, Mad about Science, at Daniel Wright (DW)! Over 400 people enjoyed the “Fire & Ice” show by Mad Science of Northern Illinois, six interactive science stations, and science lesson demos in the DW Library. Families appreciated experiencing how their LFF donations are directly benefitting students in the classroom. Raffle ticket sales and silent auction items contributed over $1,200 to the LFF Science Initiative! The LFF Board greatly appreciates District 103 administrators, teachers, staff, and students assisting us in putting on a quality event!

Daniel Wright Principal, D103 Superintendent, and D103 Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction are presented with a $25,000 check from LFF President for the purchase of 30 iPads, 30 iPad covers, and a Powersync cart for Daniel Wright! All three D103 schools are now the proud owners of these exciting learning tools thanks to community donations and LFF fundraising towards the LFF Science and Technology Initiative!

STRIKES 4 SCIENCE FAMILY EVENT
Thanks to all the families and friends of School District 103 who participated in the “Strikes 4 Science” fundraising event. LFF raised $12,616 from Strikes 4 Science! We will be meeting with D103′s new Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction to determine what to purchase off of our Science and Technology Registry soon. We are looking forward to shopping on behalf of our schools!
